Jay-Z and Dean Baquet, in Conversation

This is a great conversation with Jay.

It's refreshing to hear a grown artist like Jay-Z speak towards the reality of being a successful black man in America. We have a tendency to believe that once we've reached a certain level of success we can escape the hardships of everyday life....

In this interview Jay humanizes himself past his iconic stature, and talks towards his everyday life struggle.

His vulnerability in this interview is something that we need more of. Openness and vulnerability has been something that the black community and Hip Hopers have avoided because fear of appearing weak.

Because Hip Hop is rooted in street culture, misogyny goes hand in hand robbing black men the ability to be a human past a machismo facade.

Jay speaks towards his relationships with his wife Beyonce and Kanye, the tension and emotions around those relationships, politics with Trump in office, racism in America in 2017.
listening to this interview you hear how much he's grown in his artistry and as a man.

As a long time listener and participant of hip hop culture it's inspiring to see our heroes grow. Jay is
far from perfect.

But that's what makes him great. His accountability for his mistakes and his need and want to grow within his imperfection has made him a wise OG.

We could only get this style of conversation from a mature artist who has gone through enough life to understand it's complexities

Hip Hop as a culture is maturing into a true progressive voice of the future and as it matures, it's
important that we remember that the commercialization of the culture is only one aspect.
It's constantly growing, changing transforming and challenging world culture.

Hip Hop has always been young, unapologetic, edgy and the voice of the people... it's who we are at our roots.

At it's best allows us to tell our stories remove our masks and be human. Jay Z is a true example of evolution.

Acuna Black

ILL SE7EN aka ACUNA BLACK Crates of Vintage Dreams Project Connects visual art, Poetry, and Hip Hop, to the roots of who we are as people, breaking out of the box of stigma's and stereotypes showing the brilliance and possibilities of who we could be from the greatness of who we were. Acuna Black changes the narrative of what is to be yourself in a system built to destroy you. Within this project SE7EN weaves affirmations into his music that empowers his listeners to elevate to their greatest self. This video captures the greatness of 5 Points in Denver Colorado, highlighting the great artist who connected to the city of Denver and made The Five Points the legendary block it is. Most people know very little of The Five Points history and it being considered the Harlem of the West during the time of the Harlem renaissance. Great performers like Billie Holliday, John Coltrane, Louie Armstrong, James Brown, Bob Marley, Gil Scott Heron just to name few graced the stages of Five Points. More history, poetry and music to come from Acuna Black Creates of Vintage Dreams. All Music produced by Fat Trak of Trilateral productions, all Music and Poetry written By Michael Acuna aka Acuna Black of GaspFace Collective and Boombaptricks. The Morality of Birth Control"

Margret Sanger was an American birth control activist, sex educator, writer, and nurse.
Sanger popularized the term "birth control", opened the first birth control clinic in the United States, and established organizations

This conversation is still a debate that continues in our day and time.

Women have been fighting for their rights, to have their voices heard, their bodies respected and protected
since the birth of patriarchy.

In this episode of Figures of Speech we hear @NarmaDumezeni beautifully and powerfully speak Margaret Sanger's words.

While listening to this speech we hear how the morality conversation has always been at the root in justifying the marginalization of women bodies.

This speech could have been done in 2017.

It's amazing that we still have people who refuse to progress in their stance around this conversation.

The Agitators of WAR.

The Agitators of WAR.

Fear and blame are usually the root of how war is justified to the masses.

We look to our leaders to make the right decisions in protecting their people but, bias and fear pushed by media influence is usually how the masses choose to engage the topic.

A perfect example is 911, when the attackers of the world trade centers were identified as Muslim American’s felt Justified in the War that President Bush waged upon Muslim’s. Fear and trauma backed with media coverage, is what ultimately justified the attacks on not just Muslim’s but American citizens who practice the Muslim faith.

I think it’s important to remember, that even with Lindbergh's hesitations in America being a part of World War 2, That America did not only benefit but also established itself as a world dominant power.

America utilized this war, and the war before as a blue print to Justify future war's and attack’s on countries around the world. Vietnam was the first war that American’s could see how power marginalized on a global scale.

In this speech, we hear Charles Lindbergh's played by @Russell Tovey fear in engaging the Nazi’s during world war 2.

He speaks on understanding "the fear that the English and Jewish people were feeling" while saying in the same breath, that this is not an American War. Reminding the English and Jewish people that peace is the best answer in approaching this violent matter.

This topic reminds me so much of the battle happening with Black Lives Matter. We often struggle to understand oppression until we are confronted with it ourselves.
Until our loved ones are being attacked and our lively hood is on the line. Peace often times falls to the bottom of totem pole of options, when our children are attacked, when our brother are beaten, and executed in the streets. We change our views on the matter when violence has entered our communities.

It becomes almost impossible to reason with a sociopath with an agenda.
What’s your thoughts?
